Setting up Foil Artwork

Whether it’s business cards, flyers, or greeting cards, metallic foil adds that extra sparkle. Remember, we can only foil one side of a product, so plan accordingly. Foiling works best on bold and simple graphics. Avoid thin lines and intricate script fonts for the best results.

File Types Accepted

It’s always best to use vector graphics for your foil elements. Rasterised graphics won’t be clear enough for our foiling machines. Stick with vector-based design software for crisp results. This could be a PDF, SVG, EPS or AI file, but we need to be able to extract that artwork that is being foiled in order to print it over the top of the soft touch laminate. If you would like us to check whether your artwork is suitable, please drop us an email here.

Line Weight and Colour Settings
Minimum Line Weight: Ensure lines are at least 2pt thick. Anything thinner may result in patchy foil.

100% Black for Foil Elements: Foil areas must be able to be converted to 100% black in order for the foil to adhere.

Foil Tolerance
During production, a 3mm tolerance for movement is expected due to the overprinting process. Factor this in for perfect alignment in your designs.
