Solved: Sudden drop in Etsy sales and no search visibility. (6-9th November 2025)

I’ve noticed a lot of posts recently (6-9th November 2025) in the Technical Issues forum about shops reporting a sudden drop in sales and, even worse, not being visible in search on Etsy. I want to share what appears to be the underlying issue, and what worked for us.

On the 6th of November, our sales went from 1.2k per day, to £20 -Etsy support were no help, stating it was just our SEO. It was clear that it wasn’t, as we just weren’t visible in search. Our shop name wasn’t coming up, nada. After doing some digging I discovered other people having the same problem, and spent the entire weekend trying to figure out what had happened.

This solution fixed our shop, and we’re back to normal, and it’s also fixed others.

What’s going on

Many people suspect this isn’t a change in your SEO or algorithm, but rather a bug in Etsy’s indexing/search system. You may have done everything right—keywords, listings, ads—but still find your shop isn’t appearing. In these cases:

  • Listings are live, but won’t come up in search or only show when you scroll very deep.
  • Traffic from search drops significantly, sometimes overnight.
  • There’s no specific notice or “strike” on your account—it’s just like the shop is invisible.

When this happens, the likely culprit is that Etsy’s search index hasn’t properly refreshed your shop/listings. So even though the items are live, they’re not being served in search results.

A helpful workaround (community-tested)

Here’s a trick a bunch of sellers have used and reported success with:

  1. Put your shop into Holiday mode (sometimes called “Vacation mode”).
  2. Leave it in Holiday mode for about 10 minutes.
  3. Then take your shop out of Holiday mode (i.e., re-open it).
  4. Wait a little bit (30-60 minutes) and check your search visibility.

Why does this help? The idea is that toggling Holiday mode forces Etsy to re-index your shop: everything gets re-scanned and re-entered into the search system. That can restore your visibility if the system had “lost” it.

Tips for doing it smoothly

  • Do this during a low-traffic period if possible (so you don’t accidentally confuse customers or interrupt paid ads).
  • While in Holiday mode, you might still want to keep listings live but mark “out of stock” or similar so experience isn’t disrupted for existing customers.
  • After toggling back, watch your stats: look for bounce-in search/traffic, and monitor orders. It may not be instant, but many sellers report seeing improvement within a few hours.
  • If you also use Etsy Ads, check performance there too—restored search visibility should help your ad conversion rate and lower cost-per-click.
  • Document the date/time you did the toggle—if the problem recurs, you’ll want to know when the last “reset” happened.

A couple of caveats

  • This is not guaranteed. It’s a workaround based on community feedback, not an official fix from Etsy.
  • If your drop in sales/search visibility is due to another issue (listing quality, new competition, changes in demand, violation of rules), toggling Holiday mode may not help.
  • If you’re seeing a long-term decline, also check your keywords, tags, listing titles, photos, and ensure your shop hasn’t gotten flagged for something.

Bottom line

If your shop has suddenly vanished from search and you’re scratching your head, don’t assume it’s all on you. It may be a glitch in Etsy’s indexing system. Try putting your shop into Holiday mode for about 10 minutes and then reopening it—many sellers report this forces a re-index and restores visibility.

Hope this helps get your listings back in front of buyers. If you try it and see results, I’d love to hear how long it took for you to see the change (so we can refine how long the “holiday mode” toggle should be!).
